Piloted, Automated, or Autonomous Drone Cargo Management

Patents relate to drone-cargo (e.g., payload) coupling system that uses an aperture and pin for cargo pickup and drop off.

The video below illustrates an exemplary prototype of the aperture/pin system attached to a drone. The drone flies over a cargo container with a pin, lands, attaches the cargo to the drone via the aperture closing on the pin, and then flies away with the cargo securely attached to the drone.

Benefits of using an aperture pin system include the ability to use various pin sizes and shapes, greater tolerances for coupling alignment, and no human handling needed for attaching cargo to a drone.
